5 Haircare Tips for Babies - Using Natural Products With Gentle Ingredients
Share
Do a quick Goggle research on “ how to wash and style my baby’s hair’” and you’ll get so many results you could spend your entire weekend sifting through them.
I know before Cristina was born, I spent a lot of time researching this exact question.
When I was 7 months pregnant, I went in for an ultrasound and the doctor said that she could see her hair in the images.
I didn’t know it then, but that meant she had a lot of hair.
When she was born and even until this very day, the main comment i get in regards to Cristina, is about how much hair she has.
I absolutely love that she was born with a head full of hair from the get-go!
After a lot of research, trial and error, I’ve learned 4 key lessons around taking care of my babies hair- check them out below.
1. Wash hair once a week
Washing your baby’s hair daily could strip the necessary oils from their hair and make it brittle and dry.
Try washing their hair once a week with our Nourishing Baby shampoo/wash to start and upping it two times per week if you notice it gets oily more quickly.
2. Tame Tangles & Troublesome Hair
For little ones who have longer or thicker hair, you can use hair product such as nourishing baby conditioner to help restore moisture after shampooing.
Leave it in a few minutes post shampoo for extra conditioning and rinse with cool water to seal in moisture.
To combat tangles and knots, use Cristina’s Curls nourishing baby detangler.
It works amazing on wet and dry hair.
Just stay and comb through!
3. Skip the fancy stuff and use natural oils
After washing you’ll want to add oils and moisture right back into your baby’s hair.
Using the most natural oils like coconut, castor and jojoba oil are best.
A GENTLE scalp massage with oil is good for improving blood circulation.
In addition, it helps to moisturize the scalp and avoid the formation of dandruff and/or cradle cap.
Pour a little Nourishing Baby Hair and body oil in your palm and run it through your baby’s hair, massaging in a circular motion, but without applying pressure.
4. Be careful of fabrics
Depending on the texture of your baby’s hair, any amount of friction with fabrics like cotton or wool can cause their hair to be dry, brittle and break off.
Because of this, it is best to invest in 100 percent mulberry silk fitted crib sheets.
Mulberry silk will keep the moisture in the hair and greatly reduce hair loss.
5. Embrace your baby’s natural hair
Every baby is different and unique and so is their hair.
With that in mind, I’d urge you to embrace your baby’s natural hair and take the time to learn how to truly care for their hair.
Curly hair requires a little more love and care than straight hair, so take the time, do the research using trial and error to play around and find out what products work best for your baby’s specific hair type/ texture.
The more you love your baby’s natural hair, the more they will too
